EPA Brownfields Grant Recipients - Florida

The Central Florida Regional Planning Council (CFRPC) was selected by the Environmental Protection Agency to receive a brownfields assessment coalition grant in partnership with Polk County and the Cities of Mulberry and Fort Meade. The CFDC played an integral role with the other members of the coalition in obtaining the $1 million grant and will continue to assist the coalition in assessing, designating and developing brownfields county-wide.

The grant was awarded on the basis of 50,000 acres of unreclaimed mine land, below average median household income, and other economic indicators impacted by mine-scarred lands. The grant monies will be used to conduct 44 Phase I and 16 Phase II environmental site assessments, and support community outreach activities. Grant funds will also be used to develop a public health monitoring plan, conduct cleanup planning, and implement monitoring activities. The CFRPC Coalition was the only applicant in the State of Florida funded at the $1 million level. The funds are being designated from the American Recovery Act.
